The Demarest school system is a compelling reason for families with children to make their home in the borough. The district operates three elementary schools, each with an uncommonly low student-teacher ratio. Demarest teenagers attend Northern Valley Regional High School, which was ranked 19th in the state by New Jersey Monthly magazine. The school serves some 1000 students. The Demarest Senior Recreation Center located at the Railroad Station welcomes all from the age of 55. It is open daily from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm except Tuesdays. Monthly meetings are held the 3rd Friday of each month, excepting July and August.

 

Activities held at the Center include bingo, cards, arts and crafts, etc. A monthly trip to Atlantic City is held on the third Tuesday of each month (the fee is $20.) The trip departs from the United Methodist Church.

 

Swim Club

The Swim Club is located at the end of Wakelee Drive and has two large pools and a children's pool. There are facilities for picnics, volleyball, and other games. Swim and dive lessons are available for all ages as well as competitive swim and dive teams for children 18 and under. The pool is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Memberships are available to residents by calling Ilene Weis at 201-784-0677. Sponsored memberships are available by calling Richard Gordon at 201-750-3350.
