Pending Homes Begin to Sell
The Bergen County real estate market showed some improvement when the number of home buyers interested in existing homes increased in February. The National Association of Realtors reported that its seasonally adjusted index of sales agreements had risen by 8.2% from January to February 2010. The increase in home sales indicated a surge in the real estate market for spring, economists noted. The seasonally adjusted index is a barometer of how the market is performing and these statistics indicated a welcome relief. Bergen County realtors state that the winter months make buyers slow down their home purchase plans and one of the main reasons for this could be the extension of the deadline to qualify for tax credit.

Bergen County in April
April is an important month for Englewood residents as the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center will offer free cancer screenings for Oral, Head And Neck Cancer Awareness Week. The screenings will last from 4 pm to 7 pm on 14 April, but pre-registration is necessary. The tests are painless and take only ten minutes per person. A Lunch and Learn event at Heritage Pointe, a retirement community in Teaneck, is planned for 15 April. The informative program will address area senior citizens to provide details about Heritage Pointe and selling their homes in Bergen County towns. The program will go from noon to 2 pm and seating will be limited. In Bergenfield, residents can look forward to an art exhibition and auction on 16 April, held by Zonta Club of Northern Valley, NJ, and Zonta of Teaneck-Bergenfield foundation at the South Presbyterian Church hall. The event will showcase work in all media, styles and price ranges.

Associated Press Survey Results
An Associated Press survey indicates that, despite minor improvements, the New Jersey and Bergen County real estate and job markets will continue to look bleak even in 2011. This survey, conducted by leading economists, predicts that the unemployment rate will continue to be high even in 2012. It will only fall slightly to 9% by the end of 2010 and to 8.4% by the end of 2011. Also, real estate prices will remain relatively steady for the foreseeable future, with only a small rise of approximately 2% forecast in the next year. The economy will show some improvement. Since the economic recovery is still in an early stage, economists add that employment rates will only realized with a 5% annual growth rate.

Events in Alpine NJ
For April, Alpine is set with events to lure people out of their homes and have some fun. The Supper and Song at the Kearney House will be held on 15 and 22 April at the Alpine Boat Basin in Palisades Interstate Park from 6:30 until 9 pm. Another event in Alpine is Giant Steps Along the Hudson, a hike for young professionals to State Line lookout. This event will take place on 1 May from 10:30 am to 3 pm. The Outside Explorers nature program is on 5 May from 3:45 to 5:45 at the Kearney House. Teaneck Residents Do Their Part for the Environment
At a time of climate change, people are doing their part to make green changes. Initiatives taken in Bergen County include reducing dependence on plastic, increasing recycling, using eco-friendly products, switching to solar energy and cutting electricity use. New eco-friendly products are also being launched. Taking responsibility to make changes, Teaneck and its residents are working together. The Teaneck Creek Conservancy is encouraging residents to come outdoors and take up the green cause. This conservancy is a non-profit organization whose members promote an eco-friendly message and that helps to preserve the historical, cultural and environmental legacy of the area. One of its programs, called Weed Warriors, seeks volunteers to assist in sprucing up a Teaneck lawn. The work involves not just removing invasive weeds, but also planting new saplings and removing garbage, dirt and debris.
