Good time for real estate
The Bergen County real estate market is doing well and real estate experts believe that home buyers must make the most of the fall and winter bargains now available. There are many reasons that bargains make more sense during this season, say experts. Around the holidays, fewer people are looking at properties. It is only in January that apartment rents and sales pick up in frequency and those looking for a good deal can benefit now. Also many home sellers and landlords are more willing to cut down on rents rather than keep properties empty. From luxury Bergen County homes to the usual real estate options, the winter season can bring in savings. To make the most of the holiday season, real estate experts suggest that those planning to seal the deal should look not just for reduced prices, but added amenities also. These include expanded closet space, additional parking, enhanced lease, proximity to business centers, free rents and other concessions.

Centuria project of Fort Lee
Developments across Fort Lee’s Centuria project showed that the owners of the plot took back the Eastern portion of the property at a Sheriff's auction. Palisades Financial took back the property to help pay off $74 million owed to them by the Town and Country Developers. Financial deals showed that Palisades Regional Investment Fund II - a subsidiary of Palisades Financial - made the first mortgage loan to Town and Country in 2007. While PFFL secured the area, few other bidders had also placed bids as low as $100,000. This was the latest in the Centuria projects scene when Tucker Development Corporation took charge of the western parcel of the lot for $1 million. It also absorbed the $32 million loss on the property incurred by Town and Country Developers. In statements made by officials of Palisades Financial, it was said that the organization looked forth to the proposed development plans of the Centuria project and like other Fort Lee residents, it would promote a project that benefits the entire community.

Cresskill residents help brothers in need
Residents of Cresskill actively participated in a food drive conducted in the town on 21 November. This annual food drive saw many residents leaving bags of food at the curb of the Department of Public Works. Various non-perishable items were collected during this food drive and all these items will go to benefit the local pantry. These are tough economic times and people understand that there are many people in need for a good meal. The local pantry currently feeds approximately 55 families, providing them three proper meals a day. Besides the various residents who provided bags of food, the pantry also receives support from organizations such as the Cresskill Veterans of Foreign wars, the Cresskill American Legion and UNICO. Several financial donations made to the organization have also gone to benefit people in need. These include $10,000 donated by Mayor Benedict Romeo on 17 November. The efforts of the mayor, councilmen and other members of the community have been appreciated by all.

Best of Bergen 2010
The Best of Bergen readers' poll is again all set to vote for the best places to eat, drink and be merry in Bergen County. 201.net, the magazine that annually conducts the poll has opened its voting for 2010. Through a simple online survey, visitors on the site can cast their votes in a range of categories that include the best breads, best internet café, favorite restaurant personality, best photography stores, best restaurants and also best entertainment providers in the region. As a new addition, this year's voters have also been provided a section near each category where voters can provide an explanation on why they choose the person they have chosen. While voters are free to choose how many categories they wish to vote for, special surprises are in store for Bergen residents casting their vote in all categories. The rules are that these participants are eligible for exclusive prizes made available in a random drawing. Results of the lottery will be made available in the February 2010 issue of the magazine.

Holiday shopping begins in Bergen County
After Bergen County residents finished their Thanksgiving celebrations, area retailers expressed hope that holiday shopping would soon commence in earnest. In order to jumpstart the process, various retail stores across northern New Jersey opened for shopping on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday 26 November. According to officials of the National Retail Federation, all retailers want to be in the lead on Black Friday, and the best way to do this is to open on Thanksgiving. Various stores like Gap, Kmart, Banana Republic, Walmart and Old Navy were open on Thanksgiving Thursday. Officials from these stores state that customers want to start their holiday shopping early, and opening stores on this special day allows them to shop with family and friends. However, there are many stores that think otherwise too. People from such stores opine that employees must have some special holidays that give them time with family and friends. Thanksgiving is one such special occasion and must be kept that way.
