One of the jewels of Bergen County this town is famous for its schools and small town charm. Established in 1894 by Dutch settlers Tenafly takes its name from the Dutch meaning the land of ten lakes.
Housing, as the community, is eclectic ranging from old Tudors and Victorians to Colonials and Contemporaries.
The Tenafly Nature Center with hiking trails natural lake and various botany is open to the public. The Jewish Community Center one of the largest in the county offers many cultural and sports facilities and events including outdoor and indoor swimming pools. The Knickerbockers Country Club also features golf, tennis and a swimming pool. In addition there are also two other neighborhood swimming clubs, and a local movie theatre.
Tenafly Recreation
The schools system includes four public Elementary schools, a middle school and the well known Tenafly High school offering many advanced placement and honors courses. Tenafly students SAT scores average 1154! Private schools in Tenafly are; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, The Montessori House Pre-School and the Spring School.
Transportation to Manhattan is frequent with bus service averaging 35-40 minutes. Newark Airport is 30 minutes away by car and JFK and La Guardia airports about 45 minutes. There is no train service from Tenafly.
Tenafly Public Library is a community center for learning, culture and entertainment. With on-site access to over eighty-thousand books, compact discs, DVD, videos, books on tape and magazine, the Tenafly Library also offers children's programs, lectures, sideshows, discussion group and art exhibit.
The JCC ( Jewish Community Center) located at 411 East Clinton Ave, is an agency serving families ,senior adults and singles in Bergen County. Members enjoy full use of indoor/outdoor swimming pools, tennis, racquetball and squash courts, gyms, indoor track and state of the art fitness center. Members can also enroll their children in the JCC's nursery school, kindergarten and after school programming, summer camps and year round sports programs.

Closter

Right next to route 9w and a few minutes from George Washington Bridge leading into Manhattan. This charming community has a blend of quiet neighborhoods, mini shopping malls and some great restaurants. There is a lot of new construction of Colonial style homes recently going on. Closter has a Nature Center that promotes regular youth programs. There is a direct bus service to Manhattan.

Cresskill

A charming bedroom community minutes away from the George Washington Bridge leading to New York where most of its residents work.
This community with a lot of small town charm saw its development boom right after World War II with the return of war veterans. Bordering with Tenafly it is experiencing an influx of new development in recent years .The town has a municipal swimming pool, public library and a great sense of community. There is a bus service to Manhattan.

Demarest

An old charm neighborhood bordering with Closter and priding itself on its Occc School Of Art which is housed in an old Church building built 125 years ago. The school offers varied courses in arts and crafts from beginner's level to the professionally geared students.
The gazebo and the duck pond with its mini water fall are the town's center. To preserve its old charm appeal industry is not permitted in Demarest and the natural forestry surrounding it is closely protected.
Like it neighboring towns Demarest has direct bus service to Manhattan.

Alpine

A Small community with a population of just under 2000 residents Alpine is known for its well manicured big mansions situated on parcels of one or more acre lots.
The wealthy residents of Alpine cherish their privacy, and prefer collecting their mail from the local post office rather than have it delivered to them. This actually turned the local post office into the town center which otherwise does not exist.
The Alpine municipality offers minimal services to its well to do residents and balances that with a policy of keeping real estate taxes low. Where in neighboring Tenafly a $650,000 home will pay about $10,000 in property taxes the same value home in Alpine will pay about a half of that.
There is no high school or library in Alpine and students after the 8th grade go to the Tenafly High School. There is no shopping center in Alpine and its residents use the facilities in neighboring towns.

Englewood

Home to the John Harms Center for the performing arts and Englewood Hospital, Englewood also prides itself for its vibrant retail & restaurant district with some very fine upscale boutiques!
Englewood is mainly a residential neighborhood although there is a designated industrial zone. It has a 150 acre Nature Center open to the public year round.
The city has a rich history dating more than 200 years back and was home to such famous people as the coach Vince Lombardi, the writer Upton Sinclair and Charles Lindbergh.
The city has a regular bus service to Manhattan.

Englewood Cliffs

Situated atop the Pallisades north of Fort Lee and only 5 minutes from the George Washington Bridge. This is mostly a higher end residential neighborhood with large properties and little community services.
It is also home to many large companies corporate headquarters which keeps the property taxes low.
Children to go to schools in the neighboring towns or sent to private schools.

Fort Lee

Overlooking the Hudson River and the breathtaking sky line of Manhattan this vibrant town is situated just 5 minutes away from the Big Apple. Fort Lee is known for its well maintained high rise condominiums and cooperative apartments but has many single family homes and garden apartments as well.
A vibrant retail and restaurant district is the hub of the town and the residents enjoy a cosmopolitan ambiance with Manhattan in sight.
Fort Lee has four elementary schools, one middle school and a high school.
Transportation includes buses & ferries to Manhattan and the Newark airport and its closeness to the George Washington Bridge and all the major New Jersey highways make it easily accessible from other parts of New Jersey, Long Island and Manhattan.
Fort Lee is neighbor to Weehawken and Hoboken home of Frank Sinatra.

Teaneck

The largest town in the county with an eclectic architectural styles ranging from Cape Cods to elegant Tudors.
Teaneck is home to Holy Name Hospital a major medical center.
Schools include one all day kindergarten through grade 4, two middle schools ages 5-8 and one high school.
Buses to Manhattan via the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln Tunnel are available.
