AberArt Gallery was founded by Koby Abergel in 1991 to represent and promote established and emerging Israeli artists, as well as modern and contemporary art, to the international art community. After successfully opening and running a gallery in Tel Aviv, Mr. Abergel decided to come to Bergen County Tenafly to expand upon his success in other parts of the globe.

Menashe Kadishman was born in Tel Aviv in 1932. After training at the Avni Institute of Art and Design and with sculptors Moshe Sternschuss and Rudi Lehmann, in 1959 he traveled to England where he studied with Anthony Caro and Reg Butler and produced gravity-defying sculptures that were minimalist in style. His worldwide reputation was established at the Venice Biennale in 1978 where he introduced a flock of painted sheep as living art. Since then, he has been creating paintings of sheep, which have become his trademark. The symbolic significance of the sheep arises from Kadishman’s experience on a kibbutz in his youth, where he learned the importance of living creatures and the environment.
