Bergen County Real Estate News

Bergen county news with an emphasis on aspects affecting real estate, residency and community issues.

Bergen County Real Estate – Housing boom to Pick up in the Spring

Bergen County luxury real estate sales are currently stable, but parts of Bergen County such as Cresskill may see a rise in real estate development and home sales in the spring, according to real estate experts. Following the twelve interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve; the slump in the bonds indicates that the boom in the prices of real estate for sale is slowing down. According to the National Association of Realtors, while the housing boom may soon end, the market will not suffer as badly. Statistics released on December 6, 2005 revealed that the pending home sales index was 123.8 – down 3.2 percent from September and down 3.3 percent from October 2004. The decline may be modest as the strong job market in the state of New Jersey and limited supply of land may protect the downfall of real estate property for sale from being steep. According to Merrill Lynch & Co., real estate sales has accounted for about half the economy’s growth since 2001.

Bergen County Luxury Recreation – New Golf Course

A proposed housing development project in Bergen County may soon turn into a golf course. River Vale Development Partners, the owners of Bergen Hills, an existing Bergen County golf course, originally suggested building over 375 town houses on the proposed piece of land, but as Valley Brook is next to Pascack Brook, state regulations protect it from being developed. Thus, now the owners plan to leave the land for a golf course. Also, the township officials are now anticipating the purchase of the same, as Bergen County requires an additional golf course for more than a year as demand for tee times has increased at the four existing courses.

Bergen County Home Owners Now Offered More Banking Services

Bergen County residents will now be able to enjoy special savings and lending rates. The offer to home owners comes from North Jersey Community Bank (NJCB), a full-service Bergen County local and independent bank that brings schemes for most town and Bergen County employees such as teachers, police, firefighters, EMS and other area public employees. Also county residents who currently serve in the military and National Guard benefit from an extra .25% (one quarter of one percent) in interest on all deposits including the money market account and an interest rate discount of .25% (one quarter of one percent) on home equity loans and lines of credit. The bank offers an entire gamut of financial products and services for both personal and business customers. To serve an increasing base of customers, the Bergen County bank recently opened its second branch in Fort Lee on October 1, located in the Garden State News Plaza.

Bergen County Education – Better schooling at Demarest

Bergen County residents can look forth to new academic developments as the Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest now hires a new principal. Bruce Sabatini, 51, took charge of the school in August 2005. As an instructional leader, Sabatini intends to work to increase connections with the three communities that feed the Bergen County School. These include communities of ClosterDemarest and Haworth and will be brought together under various programs. He also intends to arrange annual meetings between teachers and content supervisors to increase the value of education in Bergen County.

Bergen County Traffic: Rock slide in Alpine on December 20, 2005

The Bergen County scenic access road from Palisades Interstate Park headquarters to the boat basin in Alpine was closed indefinitely when several rocks broke loose causing a rockslide on the Alpine Approach road. It was a blessing for residents in Bergen County that the Alpine Approach Road exit off the Palisades Interstate Parkway remained open and unaffected by the slide. The section that was damaged is frequented by bicyclists, who will not be allowed on the road. However trail hiking remained unaffected.
