Bergen County Residents Work to Keep Intruders Out

Residents across the various Bergen County towns are realizing the importance of investing in security. Utilizing high end gadgets to keep their homes and neighborhood secure, is now becoming an important consideration for many. High end surveillance cameras play a major role in most residential communities. For high end luxury homeowners, utilizing cameras that also keep a record can be useful. In a few luxury residential regions, alarm systems for individual apartments and condos have also been put in place. While these are extremely useful, they may prove uneconomical for the common customer. In cases where tenants wish to employ systems, but do not want to invest in systems that cannot be moved, wireless systems are also in place. These movable alarm systems are connected to an emergency dispatch center through 24 hours in a day. Security guards and doormen are also recommended in high risk areas. These people keep unwanted visitors out of the building. Besides high end measures that involve investing in security systems or people, one can use common sense to keep intruders out. Changing the locks as soon as one moves in, researching the neighborhood, avoiding opening the door to every buzzer and buying insurance can prove useful.

Englewood Hospital Receives Grant

On July 14, 2010, the Russell Berrie Foundation rendered a grant worth $1.5 million to the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. This notable grant will require that the medical center raise a similar amount on its own and thereby benefit its $30 million emergency care center titled ‘Lifeline to tomorrow’. The hospital intends to raise funds for the project from various sources, which include the service area of the medical center. As a total of $3.5 million remains to be raised, the hospital is hopeful that the supportive community of Englewood will surely lend a helping hand. The Kaplen Pavilion, officials stated was opened from accolades of patients and their families. The RB Foundation was created by philanthropist Russ Berrie in order to benefit human lives through improved services, education and charitable giving. After the death of Russ Berrie in 2002, his wife Angelica Berrie continues this charitable work. Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is also an established medical fraternity that has been rendering quality services and care to its patients for the past many years.

NJ Transit Approves Operating Budget 2011

New Jersey residents may see further improvements in roads and railways, as NJ Transit approved an operating budget worth $1.79 billion. This budget is inclusive of both fare hikes and also a $1.35 billion capital program that will allow the purchase of approximately 100 multilevel rail cars and rail infrastructure improvements. The budget approved for the year 2011 is just slightly higher than that of last year, making it a record in the lowest percentage of increase. However officials stated that this amount is sufficient for the organization to both improve its fleet and maintain safe reliable service to its customers. Approximately fifty percent of the operating budget is derived from fares, while the remaining amounts are provided by state operating assistance and state and federal reimbursements. From the budget, some amount would go into renovation of the Ridgewood railway station, funding a rail tunnel from New Jersey to Manhattan and replacement of old trains and buses.

Nine Storey Luxury Building in Edgewater by SGS

SGS Development of Edgewater sued the Board of Adjustment, after its second proposal to construct a nine-storied luxury building along River Road was also rejected. The property in question stretches over half an acre, with one side of it facing Route 5. The rear end of the property abuts a cliff. The proposal for the building included a parking garage with 20 spaces, ten apartments with one or two bedrooms and other amenities fit for luxury housing. Nine variances for construction had been sought from the borough, that included construction of a taller building with smaller yards towards the front and the side. However the proposal for construction was rejected. As per the borough, there were reportedly substantial residential developments in the neighborhood, and this construction was thus unnecessary. The appeal was also rejected because the borough voted 4-3, with four voters being in favor of the project. When a proposal seeks variances, it must have at least five members out of seven voting in favor of the project. A suit has thus been filed by the developers, the details of which are still not known.
