New Jersey Real Estate Taxes Rose 2.4% And Are still Highest In The Nation

Tax Increases Statewide

While rising at a slower rate than in previous years, NJ Real estate taxes rose by 2.4% in 2011according to data released by Department of Community Affairs. The average rise was $183 from 2010 to 2011 (2.4%) versus a rise of 4.1% from 2009 to 2010.

Statewide the highest increase was in Patterson Bergen County an increase of 17.3%. The increases come despite a 2 percent cap on property tax increases that was proposed by Gov. Chris Christie & was adopted by the Legislature and, went into effect last year.
