Closter, Demarest and Haworth Schools

The three towns of Closter, Demarest, and Haworth are served by various elementary schools and middle schools. However, the three municipalities are served by a common high school, the Northern Valley Regional High School.

Closter is a small town that is served by one elementary school and one middle school. There are no known private schools in the region.

Hillside Elementary School

Located in Closter, this elementary public school serves grades K-4. The school has approximately 600 students. Besides academics, the school promotes various extra-curricular activities.

Tenakill Middle School

This middle school of Closter serves grades 5-8 in the region. Residents of Closter give a high rating to Tenakill middle school. Besides academics, the school is recognized for its band, active student council, and track events.

The region of Demarest is served by two elementary schools and one middle school. The high quality of schools in the region, low student-to-teacher ratio, and proximity to the prestigious Northern Valley Regional High School, are a few reasons why many parents opt to settle down in this beautiful town.

County Road Elementary School

This elementary school caters to students from Kindergarten to the first grade. Reviews from parents indicate that with just 3 grades and 7 classrooms, the place has the feel of a private school. The student-to-teacher ratio is noted to be at 18:1 in this school.

Luther Lee Emerson Elementary School

This elementary school caters to approximately 200 students and has approximately 15 full-time teachers. The student-to-teacher ratio at Luther Lee is 11.3. The school enjoys a good rating and has been ranked 62 out of 1259 New Jersey Public Elementary Schools. Besides academics, the school is renowned for its academic contests, basketball, and band.

Demarest Middle School

Located in Demarest, this is the only middle school in the region. It caters to over 300 students from grades 5 to 8. As per greatschools.org, the independent school rating site, this school received a rating of 9 out of 10. The approximate ratio of students to teachers here is 15:1.

 

Haworth School Information

Haworth Public School

This is the only public school located in Haworth. Benefiting approximately 500 students, from Kindergarten to the 8th grade, the school is renowned for the high quality of academics that it offers. It is also noted for its extracurricular excellence in bands, baseball, and providing community service.

Northern Valley Regional High School

Located in Demarest, this school serves over 1200 students from the municipalities of Closter, Demarest, and Haworth. Offering a four-year comprehensive educational program, the school has received many awards and much recognition. The student-to-teacher ratio in this school is noted at 15:1. This high school was ranked in the 14th position among all high schools in New Jersey.

Education Statistics

The towns of Closter, Haworth, and Demarest rank in the District Factor Group I. Closter showed an average of comparative cost per pupil at $12,420 for the year 2008. Demarest and Haworth’s figures stood to represent the same amount. The combined average SAT score for 2016-2017 is 1263.

The Northern Valley Regional High School of Demarest has received much recognition. It was ranked as the 14th best public high school in New Jersey out of a comprehensive list of 322 schools in 2010. It also received the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the US Department of Education. Ratings by Newsweek magazine in 2009 placed this school at no. 378 out of the 1500 schools present across the US. Besides this, the New Jersey Monthly magazine wrote a cover story on this school in its 2008 September issue.
