T-Mobile has applied to erect a  120-foot pole on a commercial property on Franklin Street. The proposed tower will resemble a Flag Pole.

Council Member Matha Kerge  said “….. It’s true that the property they’re putting it on is not residential property, and it’s true the zoning is mixed on that street, but there are residences right across the street and down the street and the residents have spoken out against it.”

Resident’s object the construction of the tower claiming it will devalue the properties around it and be an eye sore to the residents. They further claim that the planning board which is the body to decide should adopt an overall policy as to how many towers may be constructed in town altogether.

Tenafly is already a host to a Verizon Tree Like tower that was permitted to be built on the grounds of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. John the Theologian on East Clinton Avenue. The town and residents appealed the decision of the Trial Court in front The state Appellate Division.  The appeal was denied and the Appellate Division remanded  the issue back to the zoning board to evaluate  if an alternative site within the Tenafly Nature Center can be used. The board determined there was no other appropriate site and the tower remained  operational in place.
