Tenafly Planning Board suggests more changes for homes

A recommendation from the Tenafly planning board that restricts the height and side yards of homes is most likely to be adopted.

Two separate ordinances will be brought to the public in January, one with restrictions on the height and another on side yards.

The side yard restriction includes measuring side yards at 26 percent of total side yard area of the combined side yard and lot width and be no closer to 20 feet on each side.

The other ordinance will change the current height measurement of future homes and require them to be measured every 10 feet for a maximum allotment of 30 feet – instead of the four-point measuring system the borough allows now.

Tenafly Borough Engineer Andrew Hipolit voiced his opinions “After reading these it’s not trying to stop square footage, it’s trying to stop homes from becoming three story homes and effects the measurement of the height of buildings and tries to curb the massive look of buildings,”
