Real Estate Market of Bergen County

Statistics by the National Association of Realtors revealed once again that prices of homes were still spiraling down, but now at a much slower pace. In the fourth quarter of 2009, the median home price of a single-family house in North Jersey and New York metropolitan area was recorded at $434,000. This was 5.5% lower than at the same time in 2008. Also, home prices across the nation declined by 4.1% to a median price of $172,900. Despite the drop in prices, Bergen County real estate remains some of the priciest available. According to real estate experts and economists, home sellers should not worry, because prices of homes in various parts of New Jersey will soon stabilize. For one, the price reduction has slowed down in pace. Also, with an improvement in the economic scenario and a better employment picture, home prices may stabilize and even go up in 2010. The sale of homes has also increased, as sales of condos, co-ops and singe family homes rose by 34% compared to last year.
