Finding the Best Homeowners Insurance Provider

Purchasing a new home is a difficult decision which involves many different aspects to consider. Anat and her team are excited to present you with a short review of the best homeowners’ insurance provider, to make sure you will have all the valuable information before choosing your new home in Tenafly, Demarst or Cresskill  NJ. Reviews.com has reviewed 99 top insurance companies and selected the best in several important categories. Their team spent weeks researching by speaking with insurance experts, evaluating their customer support services, analyzing their financial strengths and coverage options, along with comparing and contrasting policy types. Their review is based on providing full coverage in a worst-case scenario; it does not include premium prices. They claim that price is too individual, and given the many variables they concluded there is no universally cheapest carrier. Here are their top picks…

The Winners
Amica was rated as “Best Overall.” They earned this rating with their consistently high rankings in customer satisfaction surveys. Customers are generally happy with the company’s response to claims and report the most hassle-free claims service of all the carriers reviewed. Additionally, independent financial strength rating agencies have given Amica their highest ratings.

The “Best for First-Time Homeowners” rating went to Allstate. The reviewers liked the ease and simplicity of Allstate’s online program for educating prospective buyers about homeowners insurance. Additionally, Allstate offers the most discounts, a full slate of policy endorsements and was runner-up to Amica in claims satisfaction.
State Farm was rated “Most Well-Rounded.” State Farm tied for second in financial strength, claims satisfaction and customer service. The reviewers also complimented State Farm’s open peril coverage as having the best standard features of all the companies reviewed.

Travelers was selected as “Best for Green Homes.” Travelers tied with State Farm in every measure of the review and were only slightly behind in the claims experience rating. They received high marks for financial strength, comprehensive coverage and customer service.

The “Highest Standard Coverage” designation went to MetLife. MetLife offers guaranteed replacement cost coverage for both structure and contents, which is rare in today’s market. The review noted, however, that all the other companies reviewed provide this coverage as an endorsement.

Did You Know?
All standard homeowners’ policies should include all the following: Coverage A covers the dwelling and its plumbing and air conditioning systems from damage from outside forces. Coverage B pays for structures on your property not connected to the main house, such as fences, sheds and garages. Coverage C reimburses you for lost, stolen or ruined possessions, even if they aren’t on your property. Coverage D pays your living expenses when you are unable to live in your damaged home. Coverage E covers your financial losses in the event you are sued for injuries or damages. Finally, Coverage F pays medical bills for minor injuries.

Everything in your home is covered up to a specific dollar value; if you have high-value items such as art or jewelry, you should consider a full replacement value endorsement for those items. Many people believe flood insurance is part of a standard policy. It is not; flood insurance is a separate policy obtained from the National Flood Insurance Program, an agency of the federal government. Also, your insurance does not cover mechanical breakdowns. Lastly, most people are underinsured for their homes. Your coverage should be enough to totally rebuild, even if prices for supplies have increased.

Now, you are armed with enough information to select the coverage that best fits your needs. Good luck!
