Multicultural Buyers – Bergen County & Tenafly’s Melting Pot

Tenafly's Melting Pot

Tenafly's Melting Pot

Multicultural buyers have been important to the health of Bergen County & Tenafly’s housing market. As more baby boomers put their homes on the market, and population shifts continue across the U.S., the role of multicultural buyers will become even more important.  According to a  National Association of Realtors Research , New Jersey absorbs about 5% of all admitted immigrants to the country and about 4% of the naturalized citizens.

New Jersey’s Department of Education  School Reports for all six schools of the borough, show that  about  35% of Tenafly’s students,  first  spoken language at home, is other than English.

The break down for first language spoken at home is :

  • English -66%
  •  Korean- 14%
  • Hebrew- 9.7%
  • Japanese-2%
  • Chinese- 2%
  • Spanish – 2%
  •  Other- 3.7%
The multicultural buyers  have become a major  force in the Tenafly real estate market  with strong  tendency for home ownership and investment in their children’s education, thus contributing to maintaining  Tenafly’s relative  high home values.
