The borough of Tenafly, in Bergen County NJ, features hilly streets lined with tall trees, a large stock of mostly single-family homes and hundreds of acres of open space along its eastern edge. Its location, about seven miles from the George Washington Bridge, as well as its reputation for top public schools,make the borough of some 14,000 residents a strong draw for parents and commuters seeking more space and a family-oriented environment.

Schools: Tenafly Schools include four elementary schools, a middle and a high school.

According to state data, 91.3% of fourth-graders were proficient or advanced in language arts literacy in 2009-10, compared with 88.3% the previous year; and 95.8% were proficient or advanced in math last year, compared with 93.7% the year before. Among eighth-graders in 2009-10, 96.5% were proficient or advanced in language-arts literacy, and 90.8% in math, compared with 96.5% in language arts and 95.3% in math the previous year.

At the high school in 2009-10, 98% were proficient or advanced in language-arts literacy and 95.1% in math, compared with 97.8% in language arts and 92.8% in math the previous year. The graduation rate in 2010 was 99.6%, with 92.5% of students reporting plans to attend four-year institutions.
